How To Have A Relaxing Break

Once the bell has finally rung and the students are bolting for the door, Christmas break will begin.

Finals are over and the anticipation for Christmas and the new year starts up.

Pens and paper come out to jot down new resolutions and gifts that kids have been hoping for.

Everyone looks forward to the long break away from homework, teachers and the stress of keeping up grades.

The problem is: what is there to do to make the break relaxing and fun?

This break is important for students and teachers to take time away from stress and relax with their families and friends.

First, writing down what is in store for the break is an easy way to keep the events in mind so forgetting something isn’t an issue. Spending the day decorating and writing out lists for Christmas and New Year’s resolutions can also be a creative way to bring in the holiday spirit.

One of the most relaxing things to do over the long break is having time to hang out with friends and family. Bust out the Monopoly board and spend five hours playing with the family or hit up the new mall in Gretna.

There are always those cheesy Christmas movies on TV that everybody hates but loves at the same time. ABC Family, Netflix, Hulu and Redbox are full of movies to watch. The Hallmark channel is full of these movies during the Christmas season.

If Christmas movies don’t work, there is always a movie out in theaters to go see with friends. “Frozen”, “Delivery Man”, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, and “Thor: The Dark World” are all movies currently out. While movies are expensive, they are a great way to pass time while being entertained.

Sledding and having snowball fights are fun for kids of all ages. Unfortunately, snow is not always guaranteed. Ice skating rinks are open around this time. If snow comes around, snow angels and building snowmen and snowwomen are activities that are sure to entertain.

Learn to cook something new; a family recipe, something from the Food channel or just mess around with a basic recipe to create a masterpiece. Making gingerbread houses, baking Christmas cookies and baking pies are other ways to spend time with family or friends while making delicious food. Allrecipes.com is full of recipes to try out.

Cracking open a good book is one of the most relaxing ways to pass time. Wrapping up in a blanket and drinking warm hot chocolate can take lots of stress away from the ending of finals and the upcoming holidays. “The Hunger Games” series is one of the most popular series in teens currently. “Perks Of Being A Wallflower” is another great book.

Books, cooking, shopping and movies are great ways to relax after the stress and cramming for finals.

Make the most of these few weeks; second semester will be here before we know it!
