Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa (1995-1999) died Thursday, Dec. 5. He was 95 years old.
Mandela changed the world by struggling against oppression in his country. He spent 27 years in prison because of his views against apartheid, which he helped end, and showed the world that people should fight for what they believe in. Mandela was a key player in the war against racial discrimination.
He remained a devoted supporter for peace and social justice in his own nation and around the world until his death.
