Senior Olivia Boender was named the Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year on Dec. 12.
The Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year award is a statewide honor. It is given to the player with outstanding athletics, character and academics.
Part of the reason Boender was handed this award was because of her 515 kills, 23 assists, 407 digs and 45 serve aces during her senior season. She currently holds ten volleyball records.
Boender’s coach Terri Neujahr had a huge smile on her face when Boender walked to the front of the lunch room to receive her award.
“What an amazing accomplishment. She's spent a lot of time in the gym and it's a great award for her and our school. I'm excited to see what she has in store for her future,” Neujahr said after Boender’s accomplish was announced.
Boender has broken many different records while playing volleyball for Waverly High School.
Boender has signed on to play for the University of Nebraska volleyball team next fall.
