Selfie Olympics Fad Gone Wild

Climbing on doors, finding insane props and dressing up in extravagant outfits are great ways to land a spot in the Selfie Olympics.

The Selfie Olympics is a new fad that has arisen on the social media site Twitter. Teens, and even some adults, go to extreme heights to get that perfect selfie hoping that the popular Selfie Olympics Twitter account will post their picture.

Honestly, if that’s all people have to do, it’s possible that the world is coming to an end.

The process is simple: taking a smartphone or any device with internet, go to the camera app and take a selfie that will be sure to blow everyone's mind. Then, go to Twitter and slap the hashtag "#SelfieOlympics" on the picture and tweet it out. If the selfie is crazy enough, it is sure to get retweeted by of people.

Taking these pictures comes with a risk, though. Some of the craziest selfies involve climbing up and hanging from doors, or even hanging upside down from them.

Truthfully, these photos are outrageous. Selfies are going to be posted, I get that. Almost every teen has posted a selfie in their lifetime. But, the Selfie Olympics are just flat out annoying. It’s almost scary to think what will be the new fad when 2015 rolls around.

The selfie has turned into such a huge deal that it was even added to the dictionary, and that is ridiculous. There’s nothing wrong with taking a picture of yourself, it’s a normal thing. The problem is that some of the selfies that are taken aren’t the most appropriate pictures in the world. One misguided selfie was taken with a dead woman in a casket. Can it get any more inappropriate?

The Selfie Olympics are one of the dumbest fads teenagers have ever invented. Being insane and risking life and limb for that perfect picture isn't necessary. The lengths people go to make their selfie good enough for the gold will be interesting to see for sure.
