Waverly High School is in the process of finding a new athletic director for the year of 2014-2015. Dan Mussman, the interim AD, is ending his time at the end of the 2014 academic calendar. With the setting up of a search process and narrowing down applications, Waverly should have a new AD in the near future.
An athletic director has many responsibilities to fulfill his or her role for the school. An AD oversees all activities and athletic programs. They schedule all athletic events and officials for each game, transportation, concessions, supervising activities and much more.
Mussman, a seasoned AD from Ralston, believes there are many soft skills that are necessary to be successful.
“We need someone who is innovated going into the 21st century,” Mussman said. “they need to be organized, know details and have commitment.”
The process to find a qualified applicant for this job starts by searching for someone the board believes will fit those expectations.
“I have to talk to the principal, as well as Mr.Mussman, and then we narrow down the applications,” Superintendent Bill Heimann said. “But we’re thinking towards the end of February we will find a new Athletic Director.”
Overall, whoever he or she is that will take the new job has big shoes to fill. With all the ideas that Mussman is bouncing around, like a digital marquee in front of the school, the new AD will hit the ground running. In addition to the responsibilities that Heimann is looking for, he or she must be able to have a lot of ambition for the new year.
