"That Awkward Moment" Makes For An Awkward Movie Experience

If you’re one of those people who look over the sheer lack of comedy in a movie, “That Awkward Moment” is for you. If you, however, are not one of those people, I would recommend passing on this film.
Behold, ladies and gentlemen, the first chick flick of 2014. Filled with eye-candy galore and the tacky humor found in all romantic comedies, this movie failed to amaze me. Even though Zac Efron was showing off his body in most, if not all, of this movie, I wasn’t thoroughly impressed.
This movie tells the ups and downs of three 20-somethings’ dating lives. Mikey (Michael B. Jordan) comes home one day to discover that his wife wants a divorce. Meanwhile, his two best friends Daniel (Miles Teller) and Jason (Zac Efron) are moving their way from girl to girl. After some talking, Mikey, Jason and Daniel agree not to get into a relationship.
But, following the stereotypical storyline of most romantic comedies once again, two of the three men meet a girl that completely changes the situation for them. Jason meets Ellie (Imogen Poots), a one-night stand that turns into her being the object of his affection, and Daniel falls in love with Chelsea (Mackenzie Davis). Mikey is still reeling over his wife wanting a divorce. The two try to rekindle the relationship, but Mikey soon comes to the realization that his wife is still cheating on him.
Eventually, all three men conclude that it’s just not possible to stay away from the temptations of having a girlfriend. The movie ends with your typical sap-fest ending.
Super-cute concept, but here’s the issue with the movie. Most of the actors were incredibly lackluster, not really adding anything to the movie. With the mediocre acting and painfully horrid jokes, it was one of those movies that I just wanted to take a nice little two hour nap in.
“That Awkward Moment” was a snooze-worthy movie because of the one liners. There’s even a part where Daniel is running through the street and gets hit by a car. For a R-rated movie, the humor in this film is very PG.
I think the real reason this movie is making money is the fact that you see all three guys shirtless many, many times. Even if you want to see Efron’s rock-hard abs, save yourself a rock to the head and Google some pictures instead.
