At schools across the district, hundreds of musicians and their families are preparing for the 59th annual soup supper this Saturday, Feb. 15.
Every band in grades 5-9 perform, along with the middle school jazz band, high school jazz band and varsity band. Performances start at 5:45 PM with the fifth grade band and end at 8:00 PM with the varsity band.
Parents of band members are asked to volunteer to bring desserts in addition to using their time and talents for planning the event.
“Last year we served close to 1,700 people. So, to do that, it takes almost every parent to help out,” band director Brady Rohlfs said.
Rholfs has served as band director at Waverly for six years.
Just shy of six decades, the annual Soup Supper, is one of the longest running traditions at Waverly. Band Boosters and parents of band students prepare this every year to raise funds for the WHS band program. All money goes towards new instruments for future and current band students.
All bands perform in the auditorium, food is served in the cafeteria all throughout the concert and a dining area is set up in the gymnasium. One ticket for food and the concert is $15.00.
