Waverly Jazz Awarded Superior Rating

The Waverly Jazz Band was awarded a superior rating at Grand Island senior high Jazz Festival Feb. 10th .
The band went to Grand Island senior high for a Jazz festival. The small group that attended the festival was directed by Jim Kucera.
The select group meets twice a week and puts in the extra measures to perform. The group wasn’t very fond of the early departure, but was please with the day.
“It was a good time, but it was very tiring because it was so early in the day,” freshman Sidney Wells said.
The group played for judges throughout the morning.
“Overall, we played well and the judges gave us a lot of praise,” senior Emily Helzer said.
After the group performed, they were able to explore jazz outlets and bond after their performance.
“It was a long day, and very tiring but it was lots of fun and a good experience,” Wells said.
