Movies theaters are a hot-spot for students, from the pre-tweens with braces and zits to the college kids with thick books and technology. If these teens are hanging out there safely why change it when the theaters are one of the last places teens can go without the temptation of alcohol.
There are adult beverages in restaurants, malls, stores and even in our own homes. Now there is going to be the choice of “Whether alcohol should be allowed to be sold in theatres or not?” that may jeopardize the safety of teen. It would be a bad choice to make because alcoholics, who are regular people who may be abusing the substance. Its difficult to tell who has a problem, but they are out there. There is no easy way to tell an alcoholic from someone who drinks safely and with moderation.
Alcoholics are also unpredictable. According to nsmb.com some symptoms of being under the influence include being unsteady, swaying uncontrollably, staggering, aggressive, belligerent, likely to argue and physically violent. In a dark theatre with two aisles of several steep steps and alcohol is a recipe for disaster.
The only way to prevent this is to continue banning alcoholic beverages from the theaters. This will also prevent one more place teens could be exposed to the actual product.
Selling alcohol is something that the theaters will benefit from but how much is this the price for teens’ safety worth paying?
