On February 20-22 Sophomore Justin Hennessy of Waverly High competed in the the 2014 State Wrestling Tournament on February 20-22.

Although Justin was the only wrestler of Waverly to advance on from districts, he was determined to show what he was made of.

With an overall season record of 39-4, Hennessy was pleased with how the season had played out to that point. When districts came around, Hennessy placed third in his weight class and secured his spot in state for the second year in a row.

Unfortunately, since state is double-elimination, Hennessy wrestled twice and lost by one point in both matches.

Even though Hennessy didn’t place, he is focusing even harder to do his best next year.

“I feel like I should have done better and that will just push me to get better next year,” Hennessy said.

Hennessy has wrestled for 12 years, and he has no plans to stop despite a few setbacks; he’s determined to have an even better season next year.

“Wrestling is one of the best sports NSAA has to offer,” Hennessy said. “I just love the atmosphere of it all.”
