Clad In Rad Plaid

There’s nothing that feels better than making another human being smile. Smiles are truly beautiful works of art involuntarily created by things that make us happy. But why is this happiness something that we don’t often strive for? I personally don’t go out of my way too often to make the day of another person because I don’t frequently think about others in the same way that I think of myself. This might sound selfish, but I’m just being honest here. I’ve lately been thinking more about how one simple thing could possibly affect the entire outcome of someone’s day. A simple gesture such as giving someone a bag of gummy worms or gracing him or her with a quick hello can alter this person’s view on his or her entire day. Little things like this truly make life and come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and possibly colors. Two days ago, I never would have thought that plaid could make so many people smile.
Plaid has been something that a group of my friends in my physics class have occasionally decided on wearing together. On Monday, just like any other normal day in physics, we decided that we would wear plaid the next day. It was then that I saw the smiles of my friends and thought to myself, “Why do these smiles have to be limited to this small group of people?” I took out my phone, sorry Ms. J, and texted as many people as I could to wear plaid. I tweeted it. I started telling people about it.
Seeing the faces of those I told to wear plaid for the fun of it was actually kind of inspiring. The smiles caused by something so simple were awesome. I didn’t expect people to partake in the random plaid day, but it was cool to see those who did.
Anyways, the whole point of this is to get the idea across that we should try to get others to smile more often. It doesn’t take a substantial amount of effort or time to make someone else happy, even if it’s just for a second. One second of happiness isn’t always the easiest to come by for some people, and it would mean the world to them if someone would reach out and touch their soul. Spread some smiles.
