Changes are coming summer of 2014 to the structure of Waverly High School to provide a higher quality educational environment.
The largest change to the high school is located in the commons. The skylight will be removed and replaced with an actual roof. Superintendent Bill Heimann has unsuccessfully tried many years to keep it from leaking.
The leaking skylight causes the floor to get slick and became a danger to the students. The high school must maintain a stucturally sound building for the students.
“It is time to make a permanent change to protect the structural integrity of the high school,” Heimann said.
Other than the removal of the skylight this summer, there are plans to upgrade the wireless technology network at WHS. The current equipment is in need of replacement to keep up with the demand of the student and staff access. Lucas Bingham, the technology director is responsible for making these changes.
“Students will benefit from in the future is an improved technology infrastructure,” Heimann said. “We need to upgrade our network components to give us the ability to provide more access to use of technology.”
Safety is another area the district would like to make improvements on, such as the camera system to enable the office better monitoring school visitors during the day. Also replacing the phone system and exterior doors for enhanced security.
Although the remodels of the high school will take time and money, they are being made so students have the best learning environments possible.
