The WHS math department will get the brunt of some sweeping changes next year concerning AP calculus. Math teacher Cindy Boss will no longer teach the course, and Christy Scott will instruct in her stead.

Though Boss will have to leave AP calc behind, she isn’t too concerned with what’s to come.

“The schedule typically changes several times before school starts. So let's say I could be teaching anything next year,” Boss said.

Boss is optimistic about the shift in her classes, and she believes it’ll improve her skills as a teacher.

“Change is always good,” Boss said. “It helps us grow and communicate as professional educators. When growth and communication happen, it benefits students.”

Boss will not teach AP calc next year, but she will leave an impression behind on the many students who thought highly of her teaching expertise.

“She combined the personal aspect of a high school teacher and the teaching styles of college,” AP calc student Tucker Flodman said. “It helped you in high school and it prepared you to be a college student.”

With the AP calculus course saying “exeunt Cindy Boss”, another teacher will need to fill her shoes. That new educator is Christy Scott, who is excited for her new responsibilities.

“In the 11 years I have taught math, I have always taught classes that are primarily freshmen, sophomores and juniors. I am looking forward to teaching seniors,” Scott said.

This large and sudden transition has given Scott a bit of the butterflies, but she’s ready to expand her teaching ability.

“Any time there is a big change, there is some degree of nervousness,” Scott said. “But it is an excited nervousness and an opportunity to grow.”
