The National Remember The Fallen tour made a stop at Waverly High School to commemorate the lives of fallen soldiers.
The WHS band opened up the afternoon assembly by performing the national anthem.
Students gathered into the auditorium and listened as Bill and Evonne Williams, founders of the tour, spoke and showed pictures of soldiers that died in combat. Information went along with the pictures about when they died and where.
E. Williams hopes students see how important it is to remember all that passed soldiers did for us.
“It’s easy to forget,” Williams said.
Major General Dave Bohac spoke about his experiences and helped students remember terrible experiences for some soldiers.
“We gather today in solemn remembrance of those Nebraskans who played the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom,” Bohac said. “In particular those that have done so since Sept. 11.” Students learned a lot about how old most of the soldiers were and how many from Nebraska and other states have died. This was a great way to remember how many people give up their lives to keep our country free.
