A Night Of Awards At Waverly High

On the night of Wednesday, April 23, the Waverly High School auditorium filled with students and their family to face the task of an awards ceremony equally daunting to the stormy weather: the annual Honors Convocation hosted by National Honor Society.
The event was permeated by pride - both that of the parents for their children’s achievements and the students for their own. A flock of activities took their own portion of the allotted time, from quiz bowl to slam poetry. The lengthy affair burned through the night with the haste of a tortoise, but it served to boost the collective egos of Waverly students.
To kick off the ceremony, senior National Honor Society president Tyson Mooers announced the existing members of NHS and introduced art club sponsor Ken Adkisson to speak for his activity first. His spiel, in a similar fashion to many others throughout the night, introduced prominent members of the club and listed off their achievements during the last two semesters.
Club by club, the event program’s list of remaining activities and achievements dwindled in the eyes of the crowd. Notables were noted for a variety of feats in all of the activities by their sponsors or a stand-in, and so the night went under a heavy cloud cover and a spattering of rain.
Three-sport athletes were celebrated for the excellence and dedication required to put so much time into school activities while the students in the highest class of academia at Waverly were paraded across the stage one award at a time.
At the conclusion, new members were inducted to NHS by president Tyson Mooers. Afterward, students left with countless certificates indicating their success in hand.
That Wednesday was a night of successes - an evening for remembering the greatness found in the halls of Waverly.
