After a loss against Nebraska city the Waverly Vikings softball team fell short of a win versus the Seward Blue Jays in their season opener last Thursday, August 21.
With a final score of 7-5, the Lady Vikings played a tough game and were still satisfied with the result.
“I think the game went pretty well,” senior second baseman Brianna Boehler said. “Our chemistry as a team is at a whole new level.”
Despite the loss, the girl’s chemistry led them to win. They have many exciting things to look forward to together with the improvements they’ve made from last year.
“For it being our first game, we had a lot of positives,” Boehler said. “I feel like a lot of girls stepped up that game and showed great leadership.”
For the season to come, the Lady Vikes plan to come out strong and fight for every win. With the girls taking initiative, they’re excited about what they can accomplish together.
“I’m looking forward to how well we will play as a team,” senior catcher Sarah Schulke said. “We have so much potential and with hard work it should get us somewhere.”
Now that the girls are bonded and their friendships are at their peaks, Waverly may find a place at the 2014 State Softball Tournament supporting them.
“I hope to keep our team chemistry with the girls how it is,” Boehler said. “Summer ball really helped shape all of our friendships.”
The Vikings will take on their second tournament of the season Saturday, August 30. They plan to come in full swing and sweep the competition.
