Waverly held it’s annual Booster Bash on August 22 to generate excitement for the upcoming fall sports. The event was packed full with football and volleyball scrimmages, food and apparel for sale. The Bash also helped raise money for the fall sports through donations and fundraisers.

“The Booster Bash serves many purposes, however, it mainly is established as a kick-off to another sporting event year hosted by the Booster Club,” Athletic Director Brad McMillan said.

The bash started with the varsity volleyball scrimmage and was followed by the varsity football scrimmage.

The volleyball scrimmage gave the girls and fans a chance to see what is expected for the upcoming season. All three teams battled it out; first reserve, junior varsity and lastly varsity showed their improvement over the summer.

In the football scrimmage, the varsity boys proved that this year will be different with their new coach and new start.

In addition to open season scrimmages, Booster Club memberships, activity passes and apparel was also available for purchase Friday night.

Students and parents could purchase the latest Viking apparel to wear to the upcoming games of the season to show just how much spirit they have for their Vikings. Also available for purchase were Booster Club memberships that help support the Booster Club for the year to come.

With some adjustments made, Waverly Middle School students were able to perform after the varsity football boys, along with senior parents pick’em game during the second half of the football scrimmage. Senior parents competed against each other as they called the plays at the second half of the game.

Overall, the Booster Club and administrators thought the booster bash was very successful and there was little room for improvement.

“The booster bash went very well,” McMillan said. “Communication can always improve not matter what the event is.”

The Booster Bash’s success has set the tone for an equally successful school year at WHS.
