Drama Club Brings Drive-Ins Back To The Present

The WHS Drama Club hosted an outdoor gathering to watch the 1980s classic “Back to the Future” on the brick-and-mortar canvas of pod 2000’s outer wall on Saturday, Sept. 13.

Junior and Drama Club Historian Jackson Maschman headed the event, and with the help of Tucker Flodman, Bailey Neben, Riley Westerholt and Shelby Bauer, he invited the rest of the school to pop a squat in a nook of the school perfect for a big screen after two hours of playing games in the choir room.

The coordinators had an overall exuberance about the turnout, a sum of forty eager movie-goers.

“It was a blast. We’ve never had this many people before, so I was just really happy about it,” Neben said.

With so many people, Maschman was shocked with how well-behaved the crowd turned out.

“It was a lot better than I thought it was going to be,” Maschman said. “I was really impressed by the participation. I honestly expected some people to talk the entire time - ‘He was all like, no way. And I was all like, yes way’ - but toward the end people were just watching the movie.”

Thanks in part to the fortunate lack of “no ways” and “yes ways”, the night was thoroughly entertaining.

“I think it was great,” Flodman said. “It was really fun; a lot of people showed up and I think everyone enjoyed watching the movie.”

The event’s planners weren’t the only ones pleased with the event. Spectators also shared in the feeling of fulfillment.

“It was fun. A lot of nice people came out, and we had a great time,” senior Conner Elliott said.

Due to the overwhelming success on Saturday, the drama club does plan to hold another social sitdown on an unspecified future date. Once again, everyone will be invited to kick back and watch a good movie.
