The Scrumptious Pizza Of Mellow Mushroom

Amidst the narrow streets of the downtown Lincoln Haymarket lies a restaurant - an eatery of epic proportion, a mushroom of noticeable mellowness. Mellow Mushroom may be plagued by its location in the busiest stretch of Lincoln (parking is nightmarish), but its food more than makes up for it.
Mouthwatering appetizers and aromatic pizzas sprawl across tables and booths, filling patrons to the brim under the bee-like lights ringing the interior.
The choices presented by Mellow Mushroom’s menus are many, from crispy cheese bread to sweet desserts to endless varieties of pizza (further expanded by a build-your-own option).
And, as one would hope for with a restaurant mainly devoted to pizza, the pies are phenomenal. Savory, meaty flavors battle for precedence with varieties stacked with leafy greens across the page-long list. Neither side prevails, as both are equally delicious - even for the most hardy carnivore or discerning tree-hugger.
Many of the offered pies are topped with a grey, glistening sea of the restaurants’ namesake: mushrooms. The fungi can be imposing and darn-near inedible to some, but for those who enjoy an occasional shroom, the addition is highly welcome.
Pizza isn’t the only item up for purchase. A solid lineup of appetizers dominate the forefront. More (I want to say hipsterish but I don’t want to say hipsterish) options are in abundance, with treats such as hummus and bruschetta to kickstart a meal. For something a little more savory, some mildly mediocre wings and some mildly incredible cheese bread are also available.
For an after-dinner dessert, a reasonable selection can be found with brownies, cookie, key lime pie and a host of other treats.
Concerning the atmosphere, the restaurant’s founders chose the right adjective in its title. “Mellow” perfectly describes the pizza joint; its decorations are slightly psychedelic and its soundtrack consisted of mainly alternative rock. Its wait staff is welcoming and the food comes very quickly, which somewhat compensates for its location in the ever-busy Haymarket.
For a relaxed dinner locale, Mellow Mushroom is perfect - great food, great service and a chill environment.
And, even better, it’s got pizza that would satisfy the most cynical pie veteran out there
