Graphic Design Recruiter Encourages Students To Find Their Passion
Waverly art students caught a glimpse of professional life in the world of design thanks to the great speaker Derek Dibbern. He visited On Wednesday, Oct 1 to explain what he does and who he represents.
Every year Ken Adkisson has a guest speaker come to his art classes to talk about Graphic Design and pursuing a career in art.
“I want to expose my students to graphic design and how you can make a living out of it,” Adkisson said.
Dibbern also informs students who are interested in setting up campus visits.
“I have been with the creative center for a total of about seven years now,” Dibbern said. “I’m not actually a graphic designer myself, I am a recruiter for the college, but I have learned a lot about graphic design and describing it.”
Dibbern’s background focuses more on performance than anything. He studied acting and loves to put on a show for Waverly students with his eye-catching powerpoint. With multiple pictures of students’ artwork, videos of what the Creative Center campus looks like and sharing some of his favorite quotes, he definitely knows how to get students interested and attentive in what he has to say.
Even though Dibbern is focused on recruiting students to the Creative Center, he is more concerned with wanting people to think about what their future possibilities are.
“It’s more about wanting younger people to think about what they love to do, and what are the careers that are out there where they get to do that,” Dibbern said.
With his passion to inspire and motivate, Dibbern really knows how to tap into students’ thought processes and make them think about what they want to do versus what they love to do and how they can achieve both of those things at once.
Plus, if someone is interested in art or graphic design, the Creative Center college is an excellent place.
Specifically designed for artists by artists, it is a perfect place to go for those pursuing a creative career.
“Having a program that is completely built around that one focused degree, I think is great for a lot of artists,” Dibbern said.
In all reality there is more to a career than a paycheck.
Overall, what he wants students to realize is that there are ways to find joy and fulfillment in their careers.
