The Waverly Vikings football team won their district championship Friday, October 24 against Plattsmouth Blue Devils with a score of 27-24.

It’s been a long time coming for success in the football program at Waverly; with a new coach and many changes, this win is just what the team has worked toward for all season. Since their first victory versus Bennington, the team has went undefeated, giving them a 4-5 record for the season.

For the seniors, the victory was all a part of the plans they had made at the beggining of the season.

"It's amazing that we accomplished our goal we set at the beginning of the year and that we created excitement for the fans," senior Grant McGill said.

The team's hard work from summer to now really payed off and helped them win more than just the day.

The Vikings take on Omaha Skutt next friday in the first round of state playoffs on Oct. 31.
