“Boys against girls dodgeball!” a harmless gym teacher yells during school one day.
Recently, children have said that they feel “attacked” by these harmless labels that were set by nature.
Lincoln Public Schools have started a gender inclusiveness training course for educators in their system, utilizing pamphlets, experts and experiences to teach how to understand and correctly deal with issues that LGBTQ students in the district.
That is not the problem.
The problem is many members of the LGBTQ making a huge deal of asking to use the staff bathroom, or getting “offended” by teachers saying to split up into boys and girls.
We are supposed to be one of those, aren’t we?
If you were born one way, and choose to identify yourself as another, then go with the team you identify with.
There’s not going to be a LGBTQ dodgeball team in fifth grade because one or two kids don’t identify with their hardware.
Ask to use the staff bathroom if using the regular gender stalls are inappropriate for you. And if kids ask, tell them why.
We don’t need to hide anything from kids. They know more about many things than any of the other generations. The world is changing, LGBTQ marches are happening on their streets, and what are you going to tell these kids? Lizards Go Back To Quilt is marching so they can have more quilting circles?
No.
No matter what religion you identify with or follow, no matter how ignorant you are to believe what is going on is not going on, that’s your fault.
Don’t shelter kids from what is happening, and if what is changing directly involves you, then don’t hide from the truth.
Pretty soon, those kids will sign the bills so same-sex marriage can happen, and it's best if they could form their own opinion before big events like that happen.
