Waverly High School FFA officers attended the 87th annual National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. The National Convention officially kicked off on Oct. 29, and students didn’t arrive back home until the night of Nov. 1.
The event brings in over 60,000 people to learn about the future of their club and the agriculture industry.
The event included general sessions with keynote speakers, a career fair, a visit to Darley (a horse farm with thoroughbreds) and included a number of chances to learn about leadership and information in the agriculture industry.
Various clubs at Waverly High School take officers and members to out-of-state conventions, but FFA takes a large number of students to Louisville, which isn’t a close distance.
“I can’t think of any other club that goes super far away,” FFA president Trevor Spath said. “It’s a great learning experience for us and all the other chapters.”
Four different keynote speakers made an appearance and prepped the kids with some humorous and motivational words.
“The speakers were a lot more relatable this year,” FFA advisor Kristine Spath said. “In past years, those that get up on stage are very business-like, and this year they were goofy and weird, making it more comfortable for everyone there.”
The convention proved as a good opportunity for the club to expand on what they already do.
“We want more of the membership involved in all that we do,” Spath said.
FFA students will attend the state convention in April.
