Throwback Friday

Throwback Thursday moved to Friday, Dec. 12 for Waverly High students.
The Viking Football program has put together a Throwback Dance and Chili Feed for the high schoolers and community to benefit the team.
“This is something I did when I was in high school,” head coach Tim Williams said. “We had a dance for the high schoolers and a chili feed for the community and all the money went to support the football team.”
The football team, like all other athletic teams, receives money from the Viking Booster Club, but every sport team has extra expenses.
“The money is going to purchase equipment for the team,” Williams said. “We get support and funds from the Boosters, which is great, but it only happens twice a year. We just want the newer equipment that we can’t always get grants for.”
Many students dove into the idea, even wished that it was a throwback week instead of just that night. Viking Crew leaders made the Blair game’s student section theme Throwback Night.
The games ended wonderfully, with both Boy’s and Girl’s winning by a decent margin.
“I’m a player wore my mom’s prom dress to represent the ‘80s at the dance,” sophomore Lindsay Brunssen said.
Williams’ A&P came up with the idea for the theme, and considering how involved the students at Waverly were with Throwback Day during Homecoming week, the night was a very nice sight for sore eyes.
“‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s are all the decades that have costumes, and that will be fun to see,” junior Carson Hoover said. “Those are the best years to dress up as, obviously.”
As the game and the dance ended with success, Waverly hopes to throw it back to more than just an outfit. They want to throw it back to when Waverly was an athletic powerhouse, and they just might accomplish that.
