The Waverly Viking boy’s basketball team took on the Ralston Rams at their home gym on Tuesday, Jan. 13 and won 48-46.
The win was nothing short of a nail-biter.
“The win came down to the last seconds, but we all stayed focused and were the aggressors,” junior Jaron Bricker said.
With the boys attacking, they were able to pull away with the win, and the coaches noticed the intensity to win especially in the minutes that mattered.
“I’m happy with the win,” assistant coach Kevin manzer said. “The last four minutes of the game are most important, and we were the team that attacked more. We focus on being the more aggressive team.”
Despite the fatigue, the team fought their best and really showed what they were made of in the end.
“I knew we needed to shift momentum,” Senior Ryan Searle said. “We were lucky enough to hit some big threes to squeeze by for a win.”
The night was successful with the student section dressed head-to-toe in country apparel and with the hick theme, the night was a kick all around.
The team so far holds a season record of 5-5 and are pushing to show everyone what they are capable of and their expectations are simple.
“It’s time to show class B who the team to beat is,” Bricker said.
Focusing on the rest of the season, the boys are ready and determined to improve everyday, and the coaches as well.
“We are starting to get the hang of what we are trying to do, offensively and defensively,” Head Coach Anthony Harms said. “With every single game you are going to see a little bit better team, and by the end of February, we will be good to go.”
With another good game under their belts, the boys will take on the Bennington Badgers Friday, Jan. 16 and will hopefully plow in another win.
