American Sniper Shoots Box Office
“American Sniper,” a 2014 biographical war drama was released thursday, Jan. 16th in theaters.
While being a drama, the movie is one that could have left even the manliest of men in tears.
The film begins with Kyle (Bradley Cooper) living his dream as a cowboy in Texas at the age of 30. He soon discovers his wife is cheating on him and, full of anger, decides to become a Navy Seal.
After basic training, a vigorous experience for Kyle due to his age, he was sent to Iraq. Before being deployed, Kyle meets his future wife, Taya Renae (Sienna Miller) at a bar and he is later deployed after the 9/11 attacks. They later have to two kids together between Kyle’s many tours. After his last tour, Kyle has a hard time readjusting to civilian life and has a few outbursts of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). He earns the name “Legend” by his many kills over seas.
The movie itself, was very graphic and had an intense tone. However, it was also very eye opening inside the lives of American soldiers. The film itself was very real, and despite the many gory scenes, it’s a powerful few hours of screentime.
Even though the movie is lengthy, the storyline kept viewers at the edge of their seat at all times. Overall, the film was fantastic, and got its message across in such a forceful way. It shows just how important the family aspect is, and how much it should be valued.
The book was written by Jason Hall, and Clint Eastwood brought the non-fiction story to life. There were few downsides to the movie, one of which was the fact that the birth of both children was filmed using dolls, which prompted a lot of ridicule. It was made very obvious in many scenes, but it was still heartwarming- alive or not.
The lead actor, Bradley Cooper, did an amazing job of recreating Chris Kyle’s life story in film. He made the story very real and with his convincing acting skills he fit the part well. Clint Eastwood made all of the military scenes look very realistic, like it was a real war in action.
Today, over two million people servein the military. Almost all these troops have a family back home. That is the most powerful part of the movie; each soldier has a family that faces conflict every day, from everyday tedium to serving our country american’s don’t always realize how important family is. This movie shows how life changing people can be and how selfless as well. Anyone with a heart would enjoy this movie. I know I did.
Despite the violence and tragedy, “American Sniper” is one for the whole family, except the little ones due to certain scenes. It’s rated R for a reason. It shows how important family is in such an influential way in remembrance of such a significant person in our nation’s history.
