Ball At SnowBALL

The annual snowball dance held at Waverly High School is just around the corner, and it’s going to be sweeter than ever.

Waverly’s FFA and FCCLA committees are again planning the dance and hoping to make it the best one yet.

The clubs are coming together to help not only their clubs but to create a fun atmosphere for the attendees.

“My goal is to make sure everyone has a memorable night,” FCCLA member Kourtney Nelson said. “I’m in charge of decorations, and I hope the look of the dance will give everyone a good feel to have a fun night.”

Not only do great decorations play a huge role in the outcome of the dance, but the music selection plays a heavy importance.

“My role in planning snowball is to decorate the dance floor,” FFA member Taylor Neilsen said. “Being so close to Valentine’s Day, we are going all out in pink and red.

With a tradition of the Snowball Dance going on for decades, it wasn’t a shock to see posters plastered around the school to get the word out.

"It’s a tradition,” FCCLA sponsor Mallory Gregory said. “Every year they’ve done that just for a dance to provide that opportunity for students to come and socialize and have a good time.”

The dance is not only a tradition in the halls of Waverly but an important fundraiser as well.

“The money that is profited goes toward our students competing at state and district, and comes back to our chapter to support and fund them,” Gregory said.

Although the word about the annual dance coming up wasn’t a surprise. What shocked some was their surprising invitation.

Many students have gone all out “popping the question,” trying to persuade their date to the dance.

The dance is “Saide Hawkins” which leads to many unique ways of girls asking their dates.

“My date and I are close enough that it didn’t have to be a cute rhyme or poem, that just wasn’t us,” sophomore Addie Schneider said. “I chose something that we were both fond of, the show ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ and referenced it in a poster.”

With many other Snowball proposals happening around the halls, the students may never know who’s next.
