Junior Justin Hennessy wrestled his way to his 100th win on Jan. 24 making huge strides in his wrestling career.
Hennessy is setting the bar high for his fellow classmates.
“It was really nice to get it,” Hennessy said. “I worked really hard throughout high school.”
The moment of the win was almost indescribable for Hennessy.
“It was just pure excitement because of all of the people there to witness it. Nobody in my family has gotten 100 wins before,” Hennessy said.
The significance of the win set in after reality set in.
“There is under 10 or 15 people that have got 100 wins,” Hennessy said.
Conquering his 100th win was a high point following hard times throughout the season.
“I got hurt this season with my shoulder. I would’ve gotten it earlier if I hadn’t got hurt,” Hennessy said.
Despite the injury, the timing of the win was worth the wait.
“My brother was able to make it down for my 100th win. I also have some friends from Creighton Prep that were wrestling at the same tournament. They were there to experience it. There was just a lot of people there,” Hennessy said.
After the accomplishment, Hennessy is contemplating his goals for the near future as well as his last year as a high school wrestler.
“My goal for this year is to try and win state or at least do better than I did last year,” Hennessy said, after a loss at the state tournament last year. “My goal for senior year is to win state and get atleast 150 wins.”
Since Hennessy is only a junior, he is setting himself up for big success. With districts coming up in February, he has a lot to look forward to in the wrap up of the season.
