2015 March Madness In Review
The NCAA March Madness tournament this year was one to remember, with the highest number of viewers since 1993 and the added excitement from the $1 billion offered for the perfect March Madness bracket and the near-perfect season from the Kentucky Wildcats.
The championship game took place between the Duke Blue Devils and the Wisconsin Badgers on Monday, April 6. Duke won 68-63 after a hard-fought back-and-forth with Wisconsin. Some say that the Badgers may have been too confident coming off of their victory over Kentucky two days before.
The Wildcats’ season was a famous one, in which they didn’t lose a single game of the regular season. Their prospects to claim the first entirely perfect NCAA men’s basketball season since the Indiana Hoosiers in the 1976 tournament were looking good as they made their way to the semi-finals. The only real scare to their record during March Madness was a win by a margin of two points over Notre Dame. However, they lost 64-71 against the Wisconsin Badgers, missing their chance to make basketball history.
Another piece of missed history was the race for the perfect bracket. Yet again, an exorbitant amount of money was offered up for whoever could create a flawless March Madness bracket. Yet again, everyone fell miles short of the mark (especially considering the shocking upsets of 14 seeds Baylor and UAB over three seeds Georgia and Iowa State in the first round).
This rollercoaster season of basketball was one that had all the excitement anyone could hope for; March Madness easily lived up to its name this year.
