Track Team Hurdles Themselves Into A Great Start
Last week kicked off the new and fresh season of track at the fourteenth annual Waverly Invite.
The day of the meet went well with beautiful weather, a great sense of energy in the air and a promising performance by all track members.
“I thought the meet went great,” Ken Adkisson said. “The weather was amazing and it was overall a great day.”
The morning of the meet started off with field events that lasted until about noon. From there, the running events took place for a few hours which was eventually followed by finals.
For the finals, officials took the top eight places to be rewarded and Waverly had at least one student in each final category with a placed time of eight or above.
So, on top of the already amazing day and with most of the teammates placed in the finals, their exceptional rankings took their team to the top.
They ended the day with an overall ranking of second place for both boys and girls.
“I felt disappointed in my personal performance, I placed a lot lower compared to last year,” senior Jon Murray said. “I am proud though that the boys and girls were the top scoring class B school. Everybody performed extremely well on our teams, even the underclassmen.”
Between the effort of the team members, the support and help of coaches and with a reassuring start to the beginning of the track season the team has a huge jump start for the rest of their future meets.
Goals will be set high this season for future events as the returning seniors will be expected to finish off strong. Along with underclassmen who must eventually become team leaders.
With the understanding of always trying their best, the teammates anticipate just as great of approaching meets as the first with just as much energy.
