From State FFA to Nationals

Waverly’s FFA parliamentary procedure team took a place in the national competition by placing first in the state convention.

The team members for this impressive team include seniors Trevor Spath, Shelby Blake and Ashley Neujahr along with juniors Charlotte Tvrdy, Kate Erdkamp and Christy Cooper.

The convention was held in a new location, making this year even more exciting.

“It was in the haymarket instead of at the cornhusker hotel,” Blake said. “This was a big change for us because everything was a lot more spread out and we had to make sure we left early enough to make contests on time because it was so different.”

The team competed first to show the judged what they were made of.

“We were kind of nervous about our prelim competition,” Blake said.

After the final places were announced and the team found out they were actually in the finals, the confidence started to surface.

“At finals we felt really good about our presentation,” Blake said. “It was really fun.”

“I felt really positive about the whole thing. I was very confident in our teams’ abilities,” Neujahr said.

Once the team finished performing in the final round, the nervousness and anxiousness set in.

“I knew we could win but I wasn’t sure if we did,” Neujahr said.

After waiting for what seemed like centuries, the team was announced as state champions.

“The feeling we got after we found out we won was indescribable. We knew all our hard work paid off,” Neujahr said.

“It was the best feeling,” Blake said.

The state champions will be performing at the national competition in the end of October in Louisville, Kentucky.
