Saved By Security System
School shootings seem to happen more than they should in today’s world. The stories of the kids being killed wrenches peoples’ hearts and makes people wonder if it could happen to them.
Security systems are a big help in preventing unwanted visitors enter a school and they aid in protecting children. A buzz in system makes it so that any visitor must send a call to the main office stating their name.
Thanks to the new bond issues for District 145, the high school will not be one of the only schools without a buzz in system.
For years, the doors are always unlocked throughout the day of Waverly High. Anyone can walk in whenever they want, regardless if they are wanted or not. Kids come in after hours to do homework or play sports and walk right through the school without anyone knowing.
I don’t know about anyone else but this seems a little unsafe.
Having the main office in the middle of the two doors, visitors can walk straight down the hallway without catching the eyes of the office ladies. It’s scary to think that absolutely anyone can walk into our school without asking permission.
It seems that school shootings are increasing as the years go on. Resources say that at least 74 school shootings have happened since the Sandy Hook incident. With those numbers, it seems as though a buzz in system wouldn’t be a bad investment.
Safety is a huge part of students education. Without feeling safe in a school, they won’t be able to be comfortable in their school chairs. If this bond issue was not going through, our students would continue to feel uncomfortable while sitting at their school for hours on end.
School shootings are one of the worst things that could happen to any school. Safety should come before anything, making this bond issue an important part of Waverly’s future. Soon visitors will be known throughout the school and the chances for anything bad to happen will decrease drastically.
