Internet Trends Are Nothing But Harmless Fun

The internet is a playground for those who love to do dumb things for sheer entertainment. Along with the serious documentaries on youtube also come videos of people swallowing teaspoons of cinnamon just because they’re bored. There’s no rhyme or reason to these challenges, which is just fine in my opinion.

As if the Kardashian clan didn’t have enough publicity, another hilarious internet challenge has arose at the expense of the youngest sister, Kylie Jenner. This challenge is simply called the Kylie Jenner Challenge. The youngest Kardashian has become the focus of numerous plastic surgery rumours as her lips suddenly grew in size, becoming plump, and honestly, not natural looking whatsoever.

This trend has participators taking a cylindrical object, common ones being shot glasses and hairspray bottle caps, putting the object on their lips, and sucking their lips into the cylinder for around a minute. This may sound absolutely horrifying, but the results are actually pretty hilarious. Once the object is removed from the user’s lips, their pucker becomes extremely oversized and fake looking. A common result is a deadringer for those bright red wax lips we all obsessed over when we were younger.

Even though some people have had their lips begin bleeding, and in some rare cases, had pieces of their lips ripped off, this really isn’t anything more than a hilarious and extremely idiotic internet trend. Sure, some people have gotten injured by taking this challenge, but those incidents are not very likely to be repeat cases.

In my opinion, this challenge is harmless fun. I wouldn’t try it myself, but I do enjoy watching vines of people’s reactions to their over-inflated lips. I don’t see a big deal in the uproar. It’s not like people are actually getting lip injections. The results usually last for around 5-10 minutes, then they disappear. If no deadly risks are involved, why should that stop you from entertaining others?
