The Not So Slim Quality At Slim Chickens
Move over, Raising Cane’s; there is a new contender in the chicken competition in Lincoln. Slim Chickens, located on 1601 Pine Lake Road, creates a new standard of excellence in the world of quick dining. Whether you want to take it to go or sit down, Slim Chickens dazzles their customers with the cuisine and brings southern comfort food to the midwest.
Slim Chickens had a very homey atmosphere. It doesn’t feel like just another chain restaurant. The southern decor matched the food and brought a level of warmth to the space.
It was clean inside and the staff was continually wiping down tables or sweeping up crumbs.
It was spacious inside of the restaurant and offered different seating options. There were many orders for takeout that were picked up as well.
The food is delivered to the table even though orders are placed at the front and not with a waitress. The staff walked around and made sure that the dining experience was up to par and checked to see if customers needed anything.
The menu was bigger than I expected and held one common denominator; chicken. It offered a versatile menu for only serving poultry, with chicken in many forms such as wraps, in salads and just plain.
The chicken and waffles offered three medium size chicken tenders on top of a warm, freshly made waffle. The waffle was flaky and golden brown. This dish really brings the southern feel that illustrates the companies origins.
The slims salad provides a healthy alternative to the menu. It’s prepared with fresh greens, carrot sticks, and cucumbers topped with breaded or grilled chicken upon customers request.
The chicks plate is one of the most basic items on the menu, but doesn't lack flavor. Three chicken tenders served breaded, accompanied with a large bundle of fries and butter soaked texas toast that was really the highlight of the dish.
The prices were reasonable for the portions, and quality of food, and for the market that they are selling to. The typical entree was around seven dollars, but also comes with a side and a medium drink.
Slims Chickens is ideal for those who want to grab fast food, but want quality and a comfort feel to the meal. This restaurant exceeded my expectations, especially for what can be considered a “chain” restaurant that is used to a southern market rather than a midwestern one. Overall on a scale of five, I would give Slim Chickens a solid four.
